As many of you know, I’ve spent the last two years renovating our home. This is house #7, and definitely the last (although I said that about our previous house 🙄).
As serial renovators, we’ve learned how to restore period homes using traditional methods wherever possible (including child labour), but keeping it within a tight budget.
This was one of many transformations throughout the renovation: the bathroom.
My daughter was the first to volunteer when it came to destruction! But opening the wide arched window (as originally designed) transformed the room and lets in much more light. It also allowed us to build a separate walk-in shower alongside – important with teenagers in the house!
Look out for some more renovation updates coming soon.

Fascinating read on breathing new life into a period bathroom! The walk-in shower and budget-friendly approach are truly inspiring. As an SEO specialist for loft boarding in the UK, I’m curious to know if you considered utilizing loft space for additional storage to free up bathroom floorplan? It’s a common trick for period homes with limited space. Would love to hear your thoughts on this!
Space wasn’t a problem on this project. Whilst there is ample space in the loft, we’ve decided to pack it out with rockwool insulation (450mm thick); this has helped keep this period home significantly warmer.
