Sandycove Point

3,250.00

Sandycove is a headland southeast of Dún Laoghaire and Glasthule, and northwest of Dalkey. It is a popular seaside resort and is well known for its bathing place, the Forty Foot; a spot I like to swim in – usually on Christmas Day.

The writer James Joyce lived for a week  in the Martello Tower situated beside the Forty Foot. Indeed, the opening scene of Joyce’s Ulysses is set in this tower. It now hosts a small Joycean museum, open all year round.

Near the tower, on the seafront, is the unique landmark house designed in the Avant Garde style by Michael Scott, the eminent 20th-century architect, who made it his residence. Neptune Lodge is also an iconic home and probably one of the most photographed and painted houses in Dublin, being at the end of the headland.

This landscape painting uses gaps and drips in the image to provide a sense of nostalgia or a feeling of a memory; hazy around the edges. It allows the viewer to create their own narrative while trying to fill in the blanks.

All originals come framed and ready to hang.  There is also FREE SHIPPING across Ireland.
