Giraffe

950.00

Giraffes are in serious trouble. The population overall has declined 40 percent in 30 years, and there are now approximately 68,000 left in the wild. The remaining herds are fragmented and face a multitude of threats, from habitat loss to poaching.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the gold standard for assessing endangerment, has found that giraffes are “vulnerable,” meaning they face a “high risk” of extinction in the wild. And for some of the nine subspecies, this risk is imminent.

This oil painting on wood is my interpretation of the impact we are having on this vulnerable species.  The gaps and drips in the image of the animals depict the fact that we are slowly eroding the environment and the wildlife within it. I hope that my wildlife collection will provide some conversation and publicity around endangered animals.

All originals come framed and ready to hang.  There is also FREE SHIPPING across Ireland.
